How to identify a possible faulty PS5 power supply ?
The PS5 power supply unit (PSU) can be easily tested with a multimeter. Simply removed the PSU from the motherboard and measure the voltage across the output pins, it should read around 12V to be qualified as a good PSU .
If a PS5 console does not power on, the PSU is not always the issue. Fixing such a dead PS5 console could be a lot more complicated than just replacing its PSU. We strongly recommend that buyer need to do a proper testing on the existing PSU before making a decision to purchase a replacement.
A dead PS5 console may not have a faulty PSU. It could be the motherboard that has a short circuit on the 12V power rail which also shorted the PSU and made it going to self-protection mode, or some other issues that resulted missing 3.3V stand by voltage.
If a PS5 won’t turn on but still beeps once power switch is pressed once or multiple times, the PSU is not faulty for sure. It’s the motherboard that has one or more components failure.
